Day 8: Delphi and Archelogical Sites

Delphi and Archelogical Sites

Today marks a week since we’ve been here and it feels like a month ( in the best way possible. Why does it sound like I’m lost at sea every time I start these blog post? Anyways coming into this I didn’t know how I was going to react coming to somewhere that is COMPLETELY different than where I come from and its been amazing to say the least. We checked out of our hotel today and took a bus ride to our next destination which was Delphi. The view of the mountains and geography get me every time. I’m grateful to everyone who was involved in getting me here. Words can’t express how grateful I truly am. We started our day off the bus at the foothill of mount parnassus. One of the most important archaeological site of the ancient Greek world. The higher you go the better the view. The view was a sea of green and rocks that glistened as if they were mirrors reflecting the sun. At the top we got to see where the Olympic games were held. Women were not allowed to attend. Thinking about that makes me think of how far we have come as a society. After we descended there was a museum located a few feet from the foothill of the mountain. Learning about how realism became more progressive as they years went by. We spent the night on the balcony over looking the mountain and the horizon and getting to know each other better. This is stuff you see in the movies. I couldn’t have asked for a better night.

This day we jumped on a bus, and I wasn’t sure about how long the trip would be. I wasn’t sure about what to expect in the following days. I haven’t researched the places we were going to. I was ready to be surprised by the scenrey. However, I was very sleeepy as well. I spent the next couple of days sleeping in the bus to recharge between different locations. I think jetlagging was starting to catch up with me, as well as the fact the I was waking up early to watch the final quarters of the NBA Finals….. I was so happy to have a comfortable and spacious bus. I was able to take into to lines to sleep and recharge myself while visiting these archelogical places and the Pelopenesse area of Greece.

I was proud of knowing a couple of Greek words. I was excited to go around the city saying yaazas! to everybody. We started our day visiting archaeological places. I was amazed about all the history behind every corner we went. The tour guide was very diligent at answering all our questions. When we walked around the Temple of Apollo, I saw the greatness and similar structures of Ancient Greek buildings. Although this temple was miles away from the Parthenon, I could see similar marble sculptures in the museums. I also had a big moment when I said “yaazas” to a group of middle school kids. They were so excited to hear Americans speaking their language.
