Day 11: Spetses and Boubalina’s Museum!

Spetses and Boubalina’s Museum!

As time keeps moving forward it reminds me that we’re even closer to going back home. This was good for all of us, it felt like a escape from our realities even if it was just for a moment. I have gotten so close to amazing people. Everyone has such a interesting and unique story that it make me just want to work even harder to be just as interesting as them. Today’s museum consisted of visiting the Boubalina house in Spetses. If I could use one word to describe Boubalina it is badass! She was married twice and had seven kids. She was left behind a fortune from her late husbands deaths. She managed to maker her money work for her and make even more money. Greece even asked her for help in building warships ( Agamemnom) and led troops to victory during wars. Before switching the currency to Euros she was the face of the penny and ten dollar bill. After the tour we had a free day. We ended up checking in at the hotel and taking a dip in the pool. After we ended up at the beach, and finally out to dinner. The time is going by so fast.

Today, we’re visiting another Greek island! I was excited to explore this island and learn the story behind it. I really wanted to feel more Greek than everybody this day. So, I told Shane to wear our Giannis Antekounmpo shirt. Right in breakfast, Veronica, our tour guide told us “Giannis is Greeker than Greece.” This is just because some people claim he has African heritage. This was another opportunity to experience the Greek pride and nationalism. Throughout the days, so many people spoke to me in Greek thinking I was a local. We had one of the most informed and insightful tours at Boubolina’s museum. I was impressed to learn about her courageous and unusual story. Spetses was a great opportunity to learn about contemporary history. Bouboulina’s story is one of the most exciting war stories I have ever heard.
