Ancient Greek Theather and Syntagma Square
Another early morning yet worth it. Aside from the usual breakfast in the morning we headed to Epidaurus to explore the ancient theater where they conducted many plays from drama, comedy, satire etc. Once again it baffles me how people back then were able to build such structures without the machinery we have today. The acoustics were even taken into account in the process of building the structure. Its at least a couple hundred feet long and wide. From all the way in the last row in the top you can hear a coin being dropped as if you were in front of it! You can’t look at a national landmark without visiting a museum. You guessed it that was our next stop. Filled with more gods and goddesses, but in better condition that most of the other ones we have seen.
Next we went to Syntigma square to where we reviewed religion and how that affected society and the art that was created. A couple meters off is Zeus’s temple. It was a bit disappointed. You would think the almighty Zeus strongest/leader of the gods would have this massive shrine dedicated to him but it looked just like the other ones. After we got to experience where the Olympic games were held. We got to race where some people from centuries ago did the same exact thing. Crazy to think about. I can honestly say I’ve learned more about history in the past two weeks than I ever have.

This day we learned the critical role of theater in ancient Greek. Interesting enough, throughout the trip, I have felt a strong sense of nationalism for things that didn’t really belong completely to Greece. There’s always discussions between Greeks and other countries that claim full responsibility for an invention or discovery. With that being said, the theater is definitely one of the main contributions of Athenians. Most of the plays were either comedies or dramas. I was shocked to find out some of the plays were a satire to politics. This really shows the democracy in Greek culture, but also made me think on how this could have influenced antiquity. A lot of people back in ancient Greek were not educated. After the theater, we went to an athletic site to simulate the ways races are. Unfortunately, right at the beginning of the race, I felt and hurt my knee. I immediately stand up and continue tor ace to come up 4th. I am very sure that if I had not fallen, I would have finished the race even in a worst spot because this really served as my inspiration. Actually this helped me see how sometimes failing in life makes me stand up and boost to achieve my goals. It also made me think that winning should not always be the goal. I am a very competitive person that hates to lose, but sometimes just participating and enjoying it is enough.
