Music Lesson, Greek Dance, and Dance Show!
With so much to do and so little time we got a morning to sleep in a little extra. We all met up for lunch, what took some adjusting was the textures of the food which was different from what we are used to. Overall the food was great and a good experience to expand my view of food from around the world. We made our way to the university to go to our music lecture. Shortly after we met up in a dance studio to actually practice the Greek dance. Dancing is something I’m pretty opposed to, I try to avoid dancing during our classes back home and our first night in Athens. Putting myself out there in terms of dancing is really hard for me. Once I realized there was no judgement it turned out to be a great time! Letting go of ego and fear can lead to the best and most memorable moments.

Taking dance lessons made the afternoon fun and memorable. From generation to generation, there’s always been great dancers in my family. However, I’ve always been the exception. I was motivated to learn steps from Greek dance because other students were struggling just like me. Seeing professor Kalivas and his wife dancing during one of our classes as well as during our get together in a Greek restaurant in Lowell was a great introduction to the 6 basic steps of dancing. I have to say by the time we were done with the dance lessons I thought we were the best dancers around town. This perspective changed quickly when I saw the live performance of professional dancers at the Greek Dance theater. They were very coordinated and smooth. They were flexible and didn’t get tired easily. I was looking forward to practicing my Greek moves round Athens soon, but this opportunity didn’t come true for a couple of days.
