Visiting Acropolis Hill and the Acropolis Museum
This day consisted of a lot of walking. Going on this trip made me realize everyone has a different learning style whether it be verbal, visual, physical etc. I learned so much from actually going and seeing the subject we were studying first hand. As people we’ve come such a long way that it is hard to fathom the structures that people have built with just their hands and simple tools. The amount of time and effort it took to get every detail is priceless. We are so used to seeing everyone just succeed in this curated digitized age that we don’t realize the amount of time and failures it took to get exact moment!

Since our advisors were going to spend most of the time with us, I didn’t put a lot of time in researching places around Athens nor I looked at the itinerary closely. I was excited to be surprised. I didn’t want to overthink where were we going next or anything like that. I did not want to be responsible about telling others were to go or anything like it. I just wanted to go with the flow and enjoy my time here while also learning about so many topics and self-reflecting. I have to say that when we went to the 6th floor and saw the Parthenon for the first time the night before, I really felt I was in Greece! I felt amazed. I felt ignorant too. Most of the people in the trip knew a lot about ancient culture already. While I was just there listening, struggling to get some some concepts, myths, or cultural references. I was so glad to participate in the class with professor Kalivas in the past six weeks. The classes enlightened me in Greece history and provided an introduction of the education that I never received. I wanted not to be hard on myself and to constantly ask questions.
Visiting the Acropolis museum and Acropolis hill was the best opportunity to learn more about this ancient civilization without being judged. Every corner had thousands of stories. Every corner was insightful. Every corner had a story to tell. We had a lot of questions to ask as well and felt very thankful to be with a extremely knowledgeable tour guide. Monica explained us the FOUR main periods of ancient Greek art; Geometric, Archaic, Classical, and Hellenistic. Each period reflects the daily life of Greeks and how new ideas brought emotion drama and realism. I realized I should not be afraid of asking questions and make the most out out of the unique experience of being in Greece.
